Backstory[]
Lee Walser is a nerdy teenager, who practiced Kung Fu for fun and exercised. He had dreams of becoming a superhero, but had no idea that his dreams could come true. Lee's father was not a part of his life so, he had no idea that he was a Volsung.
When Lee was 15, he saw one of his classmates being bullied by gang members. He courageously jumped in to help him. Lee had always been told that if you stand up to a bully he'll run away, because all bullies are cowards, but that's not what happened. Instead. Lee was stabbed but he showed durability, resistance and superhuman strength for the first time. When the fight was over, he ran home and realized that his wound had already healed.
The same day Lee's little brother, Eddie told him about someone selling drugs at his school, and Lee came to believe that his powers must have been given by God so that he could protect people. He immediately decided to become a superhero
The classmate who Lee rescued was Charlie Philips. Charlie is a genius who inherited a high tech lab from his uncle, a super villain called the Lighting Bug. Charlie used his lab to help Lee become The Mighty Paladin.
He was later endorsed by Mr. Argent as a superhero.
Personality[]
As the title character, he's bound to have more development than the rest of the cast. Lee is generally a compassionate person as he is determined to help people. Out of the mask however, he tends to be shy and insecure. Lee suffers from a list of disorders: Asperger's syndrome, dyslexia and mathemaphobia. He later developed PTSD which is common among superheroes.
Lee has a simple moral code, never kill. His moral is often challenged due to moments such as the Kingpin Johnny being thrown in a chemical vat by accident, being tortured by Lingling for her sick pleasure and being toe to toe with the God Killers, making him prone to depression. It doesn't help that he later befriended Lingling and witness her murdering her father, leading him to become a Emperor for a year.
Despite all of this, He still believes in the good. With the help of his faith, his friends and some therapy, he manages to maintain an optimistic outlook. Lee's faith is very important to him, never a missionary as he is shown to be passive towards other acceptable religions and seen proof of the beliefs(albeit from another realm).
Powers[]
Lee is super strong, super fast and he has the power of regeneration (that is super fast healing). In time he can recover completely from any injury, even regrowing lost limbs. He is immune to all poison and disease. Lee never gets tired and never sleeps. Finally, as a Volsung, lee is immortal. That doesn't mean he can't die, but it's very hard to kill him and he will not grow old and die naturally.
When Lee first became Paladin, these were all of his powers but at the end of the third season of the show, he and his friends, ate a golden apple which gave him new powers. Now he can understand all languages and he no longer needs to eat or breathe.
During Season 5 Lee and his friends got more golden apples and this time they got enough that each one of them ate a whole apple. Eating a whole Golden Apple changed Lee forever from a Volsung to a full Asgardian. It doubled his strength and gave him Telepathy. He is also now immune to electrical attacks, and can summon his Lightning Chucks whenever he needs them. Since he can summon them, he sometimes throws them at opponents and they form a lightning bolt in the air. then he summons them back. Finally it is assumed (because this happened to his father) that if Paladin were to be killed, he would respawn in Asgard. To permanently kill him. He would have to be killed in Asgard.
Skills[]
Lee has always been a big fan of Kung Fu, and as a child he studied Kung Fu using books, and movies and sparring with his friends. Unfortunately, he couldn't afford a teacher so he still wasn't very good. When he became Paladin, Charlie paid Billy Herring to teach him Kung Fu. Plus as a superhero he began to get more real fighting experience. In Season 3 Wufangchu created an army of Paladin clones who were all programed with the Kung Fu skills of a shaolin monk. Dr. Wyrd merged Lee with his clones and Lee learned the skills that the clones had. This included not just Kung Fu but also acrobatics, stealth and using military equipment. Oddly this didn't include driving. go figure.
Special Equipment[]
Charlie gave Lee an insulated costume, a bulletproof jacket, night vision goggles and Lee's legendary Lightning Chucks. The Lightning Chucks are are a pair of indestructible nunchaku, made of Aegisite. They contain small generators that produce a powerful electrical current when the nunchaku are spun. (as powerful as a stun gun anyway). Anyone attempting to use them without the insulated costume will shock himself.
Paladin also has tiny hidden tracer devices built into his clothes and equipment that allow his friends to find him. originally these only had a range of 10 miles but the Chinese military found a way to track them with satellites, and Charlie got NASA to do the same, so now they can be traced anywhere on earth. (except deep underground or underwater).
Finally Paladin has a telephone made for him by his alien friend Clap Clap. This phone has a range of 5 Astronomical units (that's 5 times the distance from the earth to the sun) and it has numerous useful aps. Paladin was even shown using it as a Geiger counter in Season 16 Episode 15. The Phone was also shown (in the same episode) to function normally even in the vicinity of a powerful electromagnetic disturbance.
Financial[]
Lee was very poor when the series started. His mother had been through two failed marriages and his father and stepfather were both nowhere to be seen. He lived with his great grandmother, his mother and brother. In Season 7 something happened that changed his life. Lee was kidnapped and forced to marry Princess Lingling of the Jade Empire. Right after the wedding the princess killed her father and herself leaving Lee as the new emperor. Lee only remained as emperor for a year, but he became extremely wealthy because of this. First of all there were outlandish wedding gifts, then he was given a generous salary as emperor, which turned into a generous pension after he resigned. In addition to this Lee's clone/twin starred in several movies about Lee that were quite popular and earned him a good bit of money. Lee's net value is around a Billion Dollars. Lee doesn't know much about how to handle money, but his friend and mentor Dr. Wyrd has recommended some competent money managers, Lee spends far less than his income, but he gives a lot of money away to worthy charities.
